This is me hanging out the co-pilot's window of the Avro Lancaster Type X (Col. Andrew Mynarski Memorial) heavy bomber
at Canadian Warplane Heritage, Hamilton, Ontario.
RDF Media in Great Britain has produced a reality mini-series entitled Bomber Crew (click on the above photo for
more information) where the winner gets to take the controls of an Avro Lancaster heavy bomber. However, only two of
these aircraft are still flying today; the Mynarski Memorial Lancaster at Canadian Warplane Heritage was chosen for the winner to fly. Cameramen Jan Zuchlinski, Ousama Farag, and myself were hired on a daily
basis for this segment of the mini-series
One of the perqs of my job: I didn't get to go up in the Lancaster, but at least I was on-board when the engines
were running at fast idle. The truly awesome sound of 1,600 horsepower from four Rolls-Royce Merlin 224's coming through
your Sennheiser MKH-416 is beyond description. Consolation prize: The ride in the back seat of the Harvard trainer
was pretty awesome....
Anyway, if you have a project where you need good sound-- even if large, fast-moving aircraft are not involved-- please
feel free to call or e-mail:
